It appears to be a very well used and repaired “mushroom mask” from Himalaya, Nepal. These masks are worn by dancers but more generally hanged inside the house where they will acquire a patina of soot. This mask shows what appears to be primitively sculpted with an emphatic facial expression. Moustache of animal hair (presumably a yak). The face around the cheek bone has remanent of some gold textile material. Mask purchased from a French collector in 2006.
